Astana talks right decision to advance political solution

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) – Parliament Director General for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said presence of armed groups at the negotiating table indicates the decisive failure of incorrect security and military strategies in Syria.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Damascus on Friday.

Amir-Abdollahian said Astana meeting was the right decision to advance any political solution, adding Iranian and Syrian delegations played an important and constructive role in the negotiations held in Astana.

"Today, we should not say Syria 'will' win in the fight against terrorism but Syria has won the war on terrorism," Amir-Abdollahian underlined.

Walid al-Muallem, for his part, said the Syrian delegation attended Astana talks with a clear plan and open political approach.

He underlined the continuing political negotiations with realistic look at the will of the Syrian people. "Unfortunately, the negative role of some countries over Syrian crisis has not been stopped yet."

He described the victory over the terrorists in Aleppo the result of stability and resistance of the Syrian people and invaluable supports of the Islamic Republic.

Amir-Abdollahian left Damascus for Tehran after attending the official lunch banquet of Syrian First Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Syria.
